Love the Loops: Packard’s New American Kitchen

Bustling entertainment options, rich heritage, and a game-changing arts landscape are just a few of the reasons Travel + Leisure named Oklahoma City one of its “50 Best Places to Travel in 2020.” The world-renowned travel publication cites the OKC Streetcar as one of the primary connections to the city’s timeless landmarks and fashionable cultural scene. This skyrocketing trend of linking old and new is manifested in one of the city’s hottest restaurants, Packard’s New American Kitchen.

Located just steps from the Streetcar’s NW 10th Street platform in the historic Packard Building, Packard’s has positioned itself as one of the top restaurants among Oklahoma City’s culinary scene, offering seasonally inspired and locally sourced menus daily.

From its beginnings in 1925 as Oklahoma City’s original Packard Automobile dealership, this historic building has enjoyed a front row seat to most of Oklahoma City’s storied history. The construction’s two-story façade proudly displays its original “Packard Oklahoma Motor Company” sign, a testament to Automobile Alley’s fortitude over the last 95 years. And the 21st Century has transformed this historic site from dealing in fine cars to fine dining.

Step inside and you’ll soon discover an inviting space, with refurbished original features like the hand-laid, black and white checkerboard tile floor. Clean, contemporary lines and wood paneling dominate the dining room, with floor-to-ceiling windows washing the entire room in warm, natural light.

At the center of the dining room features a three-sided bar, offering up unique handcrafted creations like the cold brew old fashioned, highlighted by Oklahoma City’s own Eôté cold brew coffee. An extensive wine list features nearly 50 different bottles, with 30 by-the-glass or can options. Rotating taps tend a variety of local and import brews, bubbly and kombucha.

Open for lunch and dinner every day, you’ll enjoy a selection of fresh options – from healthy to hearty. Fresh charcuterie boards, daily collections of vegetables and soup selections set up the perfect meal, any time of day. Lunch offers an extensive list of “between the bread” options, from a classic burger on toasted brioche to the popular “Ragtop,” an open-faced sandwich with aged Caciocavera, bacon jam, egg, salami and aioli.

As the sun sets, the main courses shine. From a perfectly seared filet to decadent duck ragu and fresh seafood, the dinner menu is an out-of-the-park experience for every visitor. On a nice day, make your way to the rooftop bar and enjoy a pre- or post-dinner cocktail while you take in one of the most iconic views of Oklahoma City’s downtown skyline.

Packard’s New American Kitchen is open seven days a week and collaborates with more than 20 local suppliers to offer a fresh take on classic American favorites. Take a ride on the OKC Streetcar and hop off at the NW 10th Street platform, just across the street.

The OKC Streetcar is a proud community partner, transporting visitors and residents to the best that Oklahoma City has to offer, like Packard’s New American Kitchen in Automobile Alley.
